The IRCTC website has several user experience issues that need to be addressed to improve the overall experience of booking train tickets and accessing related services.
The mission of this project was to rethink the layout, arrangement, visual order, hierarchy, flow, navigation, and adjust it to the modern standards to make the ticket booking easier and fun
As a UI/UX Designer, I:
For this project, I opted for a lean UX methodology. By conducting idea testing and gathering insights through surveys, I successfully created a product that strongly connects with users. Employing this framework enabled me to develop something that is both user-friendly and widely adopted.
Creating a user flow for the IRCTC web redesign was essential to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience. By mapping out the series of steps users take to accomplish tasks on the website, we gain a deeper understanding of their journey. This helps identify pain points, optimize the navigation, and streamline interactions, ultimately improving user satisfaction and achieving the project’s goal of enhancing the overall usability of the IRCTC website.
We created a user persona by combining research from surveys and other methods. This allowed us to understand the target audience’s characteristics, motivations, and pain points, enabling us to design a product that meets their needs. This survey was done under 20+ people using google survey. Feel free to participate in the survey to provide your input and help us improve further.

The user persona was developed by synthesizing research data from surveys and other methods. This comprehensive approach enabled the identification of key characteristics, motivations, and pain points of the target audience, laying the groundwork for designing a user-centric product.
Based on the survey and user persona, I have identified several pain points specific to the IRCTC website. By analyzing user feedback and understanding their needs, I discovered areas where users face challenges or encounter difficulties during their interactions with the platform. These pain points serve as valuable insights that will guide the redesign process, enabling us to address user concerns and create a more user-friendly experience on the IRCTC website.
During the evaluation, I gathered valuable information that highlights areas of improvement or replacement for enhancing the IRCTC website. These insights will guide the process of refining the website by addressing specific issues and implementing changes that will contribute to an improved user experience.
The sketch wireframe for the IRCTC web redesign was created to visually plan and organize the layout, structure, and information hierarchy of the new design. It serves as a blueprint, facilitating communication, feedback, and iteration throughout the redesign process, ultimately resulting in a more efficient and user-centered website.
I chose to utilize the Inter font and the color #009DDB as the primary elements for the IRCTC web redesign for several reasons.
The color #009DDB was selected for its vibrant and engaging nature. This shade of blue exudes a sense of trust, reliability, and professionalism, which aligns well with the branding and purpose of IRCTC.
Inter is a widely acclaimed font for digital interfaces, known for its readability and versatility. By using Inter, I aimed to enhance the legibility and overall user experience of the website, ensuring that information is presented clearly and efficiently.
The combination of Inter font and the #009DDB color creates a visually appealing and user-friendly design, providing a modern and enjoyable experience for users navigating the IRCTC website.
The website grid incorporates a 130-pixel left-right margin, auto width, 12 columns, and a 20-pixel gutter. This layout structure provides spacing between content and the page edges, ensures adaptability to different screen sizes, and organizes content into a balanced and readable format with distinct columns and proper spacing between them.
Developing a high-fidelity wireframe after the sketch wireframe allows for a more detailed and realistic representation of the final design. It enables stakeholders to evaluate the user experience and make informed decisions for further refinements before proceeding with development.
Here, I provide the reasoning and explanations behind the design choices made for the various components of the redesign. By outlining the thought process, I aim to shed light on the considerations and factors that influenced the decision-making process for each design element, ensuring a well-informed and purposeful approach to the redesign project.
These designs represent the final iteration for the IRCTC web redesign project. After careful consideration, analysis, and refinement, these designs encapsulate the envisioned improvements and enhancements for the website. They incorporate user feedback, industry best practices, and a user-centric approach to deliver a visually appealing, intuitive, and seamless user experience on the IRCTC platform.
I used Figma to create a functional prototype of all the screens. Check it out here. 💻
The IRCTC web redesign project has been a valuable journey that has yielded significant learnings and outcomes. Through extensive research, user feedback, and iterative design processes, we have successfully enhanced the user experience and usability of the website. The incorporation of user personas, pain point analysis, and careful consideration of design elements have resulted in a more intuitive, visually appealing, and user-friendly platform.
This project has reinforced the importance of understanding user needs, conducting thorough research, and iterative design to create impactful digital experiences. The knowledge gained from this endeavor will undoubtedly inform future design projects and contribute to the ongoing pursuit of creating user-centric solutions.
